As an appropriated fund, the Saxon Conservation Fund represents the main promotional fund of the Saxon Regional Conservation Foundation. The fund has been established to support activities and measures designed to protect and maintain nature and the environment and to increase the awareness for the concerns of conservation in science, education and society.
A main source of finance of the Conservation Fund are the monies it receives from the statutory conservation compensation fees payable for building measures which interfere with nature and the environment. These funds are used to finance conservation projects and measures in close proximity to the site of the intervention in the ecological system. This includes the cleaning and restoration of waters, the upgrading of protected biotopes and the environment by new plantings, the protection of endangered species, and the restoration, cultivation and maintenance of nature reserves.
