Structure

The Saxony State Foundation for Nature and the Environment (LaNU) is a foundation under public law with authority as an employer. Head office is in Dresden. The Free State of Saxony is our patron.

The foundation promotes initiatives and measures for protection, preservation and care of nature and the countryside as a natural basis for all life, as well as general understanding for issues relating to nature and environmental protection in science, education and the general public in the Free State of Saxony.

It operates on a purely not for profit basis.

The bodies within the Foundation are the Foundation Council and the Foundation Director (Board of Management). The Chairman of the Foundation Council is the State Minister for the Environment and Agriculture. The State Minister of Finance, State Minister for Culture, two deputies in the Saxon State Parliament and a representative of the recognised nature protection associations.

A Finance advisory committee and the Saxon Switzerland National Park Centre Committee also give advisory support to the Foundation. A Support Committee made up of leading representatives from commerce and the community supports and guides the work of the foundation. Gisela Margarvine of Saxony Duchess of Saxony has been chair of the Support Committee since its formation in 2001.
