The statutory duties of the Foundation include administration of the Saxon Switzerland Nature Protection Fund as a special asset (support, purchase of land), support and promotion of training and further education for natural protection and care of the countryside by the Academy (educational events on the subject of sustainable development) plus environmental education in the Free State of Saxony. It operates the Saxon Switzerland National Park Centre in Bad Schandau.
