Importance as a Natural Protected Area:

The areas acquired consist of a structurally rich small area of water, the “Burgstädtelteich“ pond, and surround woods. The old forest stock of appropriate local types of tree such as beech, summer and winter lime, and oak is the habitat for numerous protected animals such as the barbastelle.

As the area is part of the NM “Burgstädtel“ and is in the FFH region „Valleys south east of Lommatzsch“ it has special European level protected status.

By acquiring the sites, the LaNU Nature Protection Fund has ensured the long term preservation of this area in the context of nature protection.

Conservation and Development:

To safeguard and improve the existing valuable biotope structures, the recommendations in the management plan will be implemented. As the Burgstädtelteich pond is particularly valuable as an amphibian spawning ground in an area without much still water, it will in future be preserved without fish stocks.

To preserve the hunting habitat and summer living complex of the barbastelle, protection and preservation of the deciduous wood element and the deadwood in the forest are important.
