Importance as a Natural Protected Area:

The whole area lies within the PLA “Großsedlitzer ELbe Slopes and High Ground”, some parts inside the FFH region “Großsedlitz Baroque Gardens”. The area provides an important habitat for the endangered species found there such as stag beetles, hermit beetles and bats. The whole area is classed as a forest biotope. The stock of trees found there includes oak, beech and poplar trees. The oak and hornbeam forests which account for most of the area are regarded as particularly worth protecting.

By acquiring the sites, the LaNU Nature Protection Fund has ensured the long term preservation of this area in the context of nature protection.

Conservation and Development:

The conservation and development of the area helps the protection aims of sustainable preservation of the area, natural development of a diverse area of countryside with natural forests and structurally rich open land, and the preservation of the FFH habitat “Wood bedstraw-oak-hornbeam”.
