Importance as a Natural Protected Area:

The are is in the catchment area of the Great Röder. As a natural pasture landscape, it is characterised by riverside woodland and wet meadows. As it provides a useful habitat for rare animals and plants, the area forms part of the FFH area “Picturesque Ulbrichtstöcke” and the NM “Great Röder below Grossenhain“.

The appearance of beavers and otters is of particular interest. For many years, the area has been a junction of walking paths and so is an important habitat.

By acquiring the site, the LaNU Nature Protection Fund has ensured the long term preservation and development of the area in the context of nature protection.

Conservation and Development:

The grassland is maintained regularly. An old transformer building will be converted to a dwelling for species of animal who like buildings such as bats.
