Importance as a Natural Protected Area:

The site is part of a larger meadow complex on nutritionally poor, acidic-soil locations around Schellerhau. The areas is part of the FFH area and so has special European level protection status.

The area has a particularly rich diversity of species and a meadow nature which is valuable from a nature protection point of view. Mountain meadows, mat grass plus bulrush and sedge rich wet meadows create a structure-rich habitat here for rare and endangered plants and animals.

The meadow communities are specially protected biotopes under §26 SächsNatSchG. By acquiring the site, the LaNU Nature Protection Fund has ensured the long term preservation and development of the area in the context of nature protection.

Conservation and Development:

To safeguard the habitats, preservation and targeted development of these diverse mountain meadows, mat grass areas and wet meadows by means of extensive management is of great importance.
