Importance as a Natural Protected Area:

The orchard meadow which is mainly characterised by old cherry trees shows a high proportion of deadwood. The number of smaller tree hollows has led to incidences of bats and other tree hollow dwellers. In addition nesting boxes and perches for birds were fitted.

The undergrowth consists of a poor new meadow with a wide variety of plant species such as Rapunzel bell flowers, great burnet and ragweed. In some areas, this extends over into semi dry grass areas.

By acquiring the site, the LaNU Nature Protection Fund has ensured the long term preservation and development of the area in the context of nature protection.

Conservation and Development:

There is a management contract in place with the LPV Muldenland e.V, who were given responsibility for the care of the area. The meadow is cut twice a year.

To upgrade the existing meadow orchard stock, regional cherry types were planted in spring 2012.
