Project AreaNorth Saxony District
Acquisition July 2001
Size5.16 ha
Natural Monument (NM)
Fauna-Flora-Habitat (FFH)
Special Protected Area (SPA)
Protected Landscape Area (PLA)

Importance as a Natural Protected Area:

The purchase of these areas by the LaNU Nature Protection Fundalong the Fliessgraben (PLA “Leintal” and NM’s “Fuchsbusch“, “Erlbusch“, “Fließgraben on the Kämmereirand”)should develop a biotope network system along the water in the long term.

The area is characterised by a complex habitat structure. The riverside forest, wet meadow and the still partly preserved original course of the Fließgraben are particularly worth mentioning, as well as a shaped pool where sedge and reed beds can be found.

From a flora point of view, the incidence of wood anemone, lesser celandine and cowslip are worth mentioning. Many species have a habitat here, such as the sand and common lizard, the common newt, the red and black kites, the kestrel, shrews and small populations of bats. You may also observe some species of dragonfly, including the ruddy darter and the large red damsel fly.

The area has also been recognised as an FFH region, and so has special European level protection status. By acquiring the site, the LaNU Nature Protection Fund has ensured the long term preservation and development in the context of nature protection.

Conservation and Development:

Cutting and grazing preserve or allow species to resettle. Therefore mowing takes place at least once a year. Grazing by Scottish highland deer keeps growth down and also ensures a balanced nature of the vegetation due to their selective feeding behaviour.
